Odisha: Students of Classes 1 to 8 promoted to next class without exams

Odisha Government has decided to promote all students of classes 1 to 8 in the state, without examination. Today, the Odisha School and Mass Education Department promoted the students without an examination for the 2020-21 academic sessions. The decision of direct promotion was taken in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent school closures.

Odisha’s decision comes close on the heels of the Puducherry Government’s order to do the same. Tamil Nadu, too, had a few days ago decided to cancel the board exams for students of classes 10 and 11. The move was taken in view of the fact that the schools have remained closed for the most part of the academic year.

Odisha Government has also decided to conduct remedial classes at the beginning of the new session to create a strong basic for the students. The remedial classes will be held at least for the first two or three months.

Recently, the Odisha Government has also decided to stop Sunday classes for 10th and 12th students from April onward.  The Odisha state education department has taken this decision to allow more self-study timings to the students.

The decision taken by the Odisha state government is applicable to all the government, government-aided and un-aided private schools. The schools have to promote classes 1 to 8 students without any annual examinations and also remedial classes to be held mandatorily in the next academic session.

Odisha government will begin the new academic session for 2021-2022 soon. Students are gearing up to begin their new classes with great hope and heights.
